Membership FAQs

Vets for Climate Action is a Company Limited by Guarantee, and our staff and operations are governed by a Board of Directors, who are in turn elected by our Constitutional Members.

Pursuant to our registration with the Australian Charity and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) in 2019, we are required to have at least 50 individual members who are entitled to vote at a general meeting (Member).

As a Member of Vets for Climate Action, you have both rights and obligations pursuant to Vets for Climate Action’s Constitution

We understand the confusion! This is one of the reasons we've updated the Membership Program - many supporters weren’t sure whether they are Membersdonors, or both.

There is a strong chance that you've been contributing since before we received DGR- status and before you could claim any financial contributions as a tax deduction. We deeply appreciate your generosity and long-term commitment. Thank you.

Many of you joined as either veterinary, associate or student supporters in our early days and as a result became Members.

We warmly invite you to select a new Membership tier to continue shaping our mission, and we'll note your regular monthly (or quarterly) contributions as tax-deductible donations to avoid any confusion.

Or, please email us with any questions.

We’ve refreshed our Membership Program to offer more value, clearer engagement, and a deeper sense of community.
Here’s what’s new:

  • Four inspiring membership tiers to choose from

  • Tree planting in protected native forests to celebrate your commitment

  • More ways to connect, contribute, and stay informed

  • A simple, once-a-year payment

  • Your right to vote at our Annual General Meeting

  • Continued support for an organisation advocating for climate action that protects animal health and welfare

Over the years, we've grown and evolved, achieving DGR-status, and our community has grown — but many supporters weren’t sure whether they are Members, donors, or both.

This refresh helps clarify your relationship with VfCA and ensures everyone who wants to be a Member can confirm it and stay connected in a meaningful way.

And this will help us build a more engaged, empowered community advocating for strong climate action with animal health and welfare at its heart.

Yes, absolutely — and we’d love that!

Your monthly donations fuel our work, and your Membership gives you a voice in our future direction. Together, they’re a powerful combination.

Please note that how you claim any of your generous payments made to VfCA is up to your individual circumstances. The below is general information and not advice.

Veterinarians for Climate Action Ltd (ABN 16 636 944 191) is an ACNC registered charity with Donor Gift Recipient (DGR) status in Australia. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Generally speaking, membership fees are not tax-deductible. All Vets for Climate Action membership tiers include a $50 non-deductible membership fee; the remaining amount is intended as a tax-deductible donation.

If we don't hear from you by 31 August 2025 or you choose not to select a new Membership tier, we'll assume that you no longer wish to be a Member with Vets for Climate Action.

Our email of 31 May 2025 served as a formal written request under section 24(d) of our Constitution which says:

24. A person immediately stops being a Member if they:

(d). have not responded within three (3) months to a written request from the secretary that they confirm in writing that they want to remain a Member

We will then remove your name from our Member register, and we'll note any regular monthly (or quarterly) contributions as tax-deductible donations to avoid any confusion.

Of course, we understand the busy-ness of life and practice: if time slips away and you respond after 31 August 2025, we can very easily re-instate your Membership!

Please email us at any time.

It’s never been more important to restore nature and biodiversity. This is why we’ve partnered with Greenfleet to grow legally protected, native Australian forests.

Greenfleet is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation protecting our climate by restoring our forests. Greenfleet plants legally protected, native forests to restore nature, remove carbon, and grow wildlife habitat.

Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 11.2 million native trees across 550+ forests in Australia and New Zealand. As they grow, these forests absorb carbon, improve soil and water quality, and restore habitat for native wildlife, including many endangered species.

As at 30 May 2025, we will be supporting Greenfleet's forest in Ledcourt, Victoria, located on the lands of the Jardwadjali & Djabwurung people, adjacent to the northern part of the Grampians National Park in Victoria.

Species being planted include Australian blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon), sweet bursaria (Bursaria spinosa) and prickly tea-tree (Leptospermum myrsinoides). Prickly tea-tree will provide refuge for small birds, with the flowers becoming a nectar source for birds, insects and butterflies. Greenfleet also planted yellow box (Eucalyptus melliodora) which is one of the four eucalypt species chosen to help form the forest canopy.

The forest at Ledcourt is legally protected for 100 years so the long-term restoration work will provide potential habitat to many wildlife species as the forest grows. Learn more about the Ledcourt forest here

Through practical climate action, Greenfleet is growing hope for our climate. Learn more at: greenfleet.com.au

Wonderful!

With your continued support, we know we can create a world where animals and people thrive in a healthy climate.
