Understanding your 2023-2024 End of Financial Year Receipt

Understanding your 2023-2024 End of Financial Year Receipt

Please note that how you may claim any of your generous payments made to VfCA over the last financial year is up to your individual circumstances. The below is general information and not advice.

Donations

Veterinarians for Climate Action Ltd (ABN 16 636 944 191) is an ACNC registered charity with Donor Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Any donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Vets for Climate Action was granted DGR status on 23 September 2022. Any donations over $2 made since that date may be tax deductible.

Thank you for your support!

Constitutional Membership Fee

VfCA is a Company Limited by Guarantee, and our staff and operations are governed by a Board of Directors, who are in turn elected by our Constitutional Members.

Pursuant to our registration with the Australian Charity and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) in 2019, we are required to have at least 50 individual members who are entitled to vote at a general meeting (Constitutional Member).

If you have a Constitutional Membership Fee on your receipt, we confirm that you are a voting member of Vets for Climate Action, which accords you voting rights at a general meeting, pursuant to Vets for Climate Action’s Constitution

Generally speaking, a membership fee is not tax deductible.

Film Ticket Sale

This is payment for ticket/s purchased to our online film event, Rachel’s Farm, on the weekend of 25 - 28 January 2024.

Legacy Membership

Prior to December 2023, Vets for Climate Action had multiple categories of Constitutional membership:

  1. Veterinary member;
  2. Veterinarian student or graduate member; or
  3. Associate Member.

The current VfCA Constitution was approved at the December 2023 Annual General Meeting, which resolved to only have one category of membership to simplify this.

If you have a category on your receipt headed Legacy Membership this means you were once a Veterinary, Veterinary student, or Associate Member, under the prior Constitution

We confirm that you are also considered a Constitutional (voting) Member of Vets for Climate Action, which accords you voting rights at a general meeting, pursuant to Vets for Climate Action’s Constitution

As a Legacy Member, you have also been financially contributing to our mission since the organisation’s early days. Without you, all we have achieved would not have been possible

We send our thanks to you for your ongoing support of Vets for Climate Action.

Generally speaking, membership fees are not tax deductible.

We also note that prior to 23 September 2022, Vets for Climate Action did not have tax deductibility status.

Vets for Climate Action was granted DGR-status effective 23 September 2022. Since then, any gifts over $2 since that date may be tax deductible.

We don’t want to suggest how you might make any tax deductible claims but you may prefer that your monthly membership fees are actually considered a donation, and avoid any confusion at the next End of Financial Year.

We also would like you to remain a valued Constitutional Member of Vets for Climate Action, and participate in our development moving forward.

We will be moving towards a one-off Annual Fee model for Constitutional Membership.

To confirm your choice, we ask you to please select an option to the right and we will be in touch regarding the next steps.

Please note: You may also have both a Constitutional Membership Fee on your receipt and Legacy Membership. If this is the case, we would ask that you select YES on Question 1 and 2.

If you don’t take any action, nothing will change. Your payments to VfCA will continue to be reflected as Legacy Membership at the end of the next financial year and you will remain a Constitutional member of Vets for Climate Action.
