Volunteer Opportunity: Communications Team Member
About The Role
The Communications Team plays an important role at Vets for Climate Action helping us effectively communicate our mission, programs, and impact to our supporters, partners, government and the broader community. As a Communications Team member you will support VfCA’s communications and advocacy strategies, and directly represent the organisation’s mission and vision through content writing.
This is a remote, volunteer position with flexible hours.
Responsibilities
- As a Communications Team Volunteer at Vets for Climate Action, you may be asked to:
- Write policy submissions to the state and federal government, and letters to politicians
- Write media releases in response to current relevant affairs and news
- Develop engaging and compelling articles and website content for a variety of audiences in support of differing animal/climate related objectives.
- Support research for improving communications, outreach and media engagement.
- As a Communications Team member you will meet with other Team members every month online, or as needed depending on any campaigns.
- There may be some minimal domestic or intra-state travel opportunities for key industry events.
- While the Communications team’s focus is on written content, there may be opportunities for TV, radio, webinar and/or podcast appearances if this is of interest.
About you
- You may have previous experience working in the veterinary or animal care sector, or with an advocacy organisation
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- You will guarantee the quality of content you produce is of quality including taking accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the content
- You have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- You can commit to volunteering between 1 to 2 hours per week (on average)
- You are passionate about action on climate and helping to drive positive change
Support VfCA Will Provide
- A thorough induction process (please note you will be required to undertake the volunteer induction process and sign our Volunteer Agreement).
- Training in any necessary skills (e.g. media training through CMC).
- Practical and logistical support from Programs Lead, Team Leaders, fellow volunteers and other VfCA staff.
