Declaration of a climate emergency

It is now clear from the science that to avoid catastrophic climate heating of over 2 degrees we must completely decarbonise all economies by 2050. The urgency and magnitude of this task now presents as a true emergency.

Please sign the petition below to add your voice to the call for the Australian Government to declare a climate emergency warranting the sort of response we have seen with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The veterinary community declares

  1. The catastrophic fire conditions of last summer are evidence of a current climate emergency
  2. Three major bleaching events in the last five years devastating the Great Barrier Reef is evidence of a current climate emergency
  3. The extinction of the Bramble cay melomys secondary to sea level rise and intensifying storms is evidence of irreversible climate tragedy

 

Will you sign?

We, the petitioners, call on the Government of Australia to declare an international climate emergency and to dedicate all resources needed to bring all of Australia's direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2030 and to continue to scale up carbon drawdown technologies until global atmospheric CO2 concentrations are brought down to less than 400 ppm.
